Hello from New York

Moe   12/Aug/2002:01:53:13
What a trip down memory lane this site is! It is absolutely fantastic,
and its the first time Ive heard the No.73 theme tune since I was about
10 years of age! I loved No.73, and the memories came flooding back
going through this site - I remembered things that I had totally
forgoten, like Ethel's wedding. And Nadia! Forgot all about her.

Well done on a truly fantastic site, and thanks for bringing me back to
that time when Saturday mornings were ruled by Kim, Neil, Harry, Dawn,
Ethel, Hamilton Dent and the Telebugs! Those were the days..

Gary   11/Aug/2002:04:55:00
Blimey a website that finally i can relate to.... love it, lets not
lose the old times...they can't be forgotton

Anna,

Does your Dad have any pictures (or perhaps stories) about No73?
If so, please send them to Paul (the webmaster) and we might get an update
to this site!

I'm so glad to find this site. My dad was set decorater for TVS and
with the set to no. 73 this, worked on Motormouth and Fragle Rock. I
can prove to my friends I'm not insane and my favourite morning
programme of that time does exist!!

i remember this programme well and im glad to have tracted it down

Wow! Number 73!

I remember this as one of the better Saturday morning programmes (and a
lot better than Motormouth)

How I would love to see some repeats (or even a video download section)
on this Web Site (which is very good!)

Dynamite stuff. Thanks!

I got into 73 when I was too old for Saturday morning TV- I was 18, it
was 1983, I was living in Wales and caught the first networked series
of this show from my home county of Kent. I was going out with my first
girlfriend and almost got distracted by Kim Goody, who was, and ever
more shall be, one of the most gorgeous women in the world. In fact,
this website's reminded me of just what a fox she was. yes i remember
her single, I remember the strand in 73 in 1986-7 when she was
recording it... I thought, mm, not bad, but could be better. And then
Aswad come along and do it 10 times better and get a No.1

Kim aside it was a great show, not least cos of Roger Ramjet which I
have NEVER seen since. Brilliant toon. Good variety of offbeat bands
too. No Jesus and Mary Chain or Miles Davis, but well, we can't all be
perfect...

1987-8 was the heyday, cos not only was Kim still in it, Nadia de
Lemeny was another stratospheric beauty. I actually wrote- at the ag

Hi there

Are you looking for any No 73 videos for your collection?

As visitors to SATKIDS might know, I would like No73 to be brought back
to replace SMTV when it is (inevitably) axed.
Not repeats, but a new beginning. What do others think?
I think we should start a campaign HERE!

Oh deary me! Its been 15yrs now since i had the "wonderful" opportunity
of appearing live on No.73. It was the infamous episode with Iggy Pop
in, ive still got the cringeworthy tape in which i donned a lovely blue
velour dress with a hideous huge sailors bow on the front -&- red moon
boots-ARRGHH! I was one of the lucky brats whose names got picked out
of a hat to appear on the show for their birthday. My main memory was
to go -&- "boogie on down" with my spangley bangles we had just made with
Neil Buchanon. This was easily remembered coz whilst Mr Pop proceeded
to er, fondle a huge teddy bear i got kicked in the fanny by the man
himself! This of course was an accident, but it brings tears to my eyes
to this day, no wonder i didnt have the nerve to ask for his autograph
for my dad! Ra raaaa, bring back the good 'ol days of the No.73 era!

Heather Harrison   12/Dec/2001:06:07:35
Sorry folks, 73 was not an outstandingly brilliant show...you're
just convinced things were better back then! However, it beat the
crappy 'Get Fresh' with Gaz Topp, that ITV put on after it
(although respect to Gaz for the BMX show that he did around
1986). By the way, does anyone remember 'knock your block off'?
What's that curly-haired lad off 'Seaview' doing now, and, more
importantly, what the fuck am I doing up at four in the morning
typing this shit? I've wasted my life?!

Andy Mac   10/Dec/2001:18:14:19
No 73 rocked - so innovative, and the comedy bits were pure sitcom. I
loved the whole concept - bands in the cellar, the sandwich
quiz...Thanks for allowing me a wallow in nostalgia.

Kev Parry   08/Dec/2001:03:51:23
I remember sitting in front of the tv watching number 73 with my rice
crispies and cold toast. I used to like watching it every saturday
because of Roger Ramget and saturday was shopping day and we always
used to go into town to buy somthing nice.

It was a bit wierd when i typed Number 73 into the search engine and
such a big site appeared.

Nice to see some other people still remember the days of Buchanan's
mullet and Toksvig in a semi fanciable stage.

Long live Number 73!

Ian Aspley   02/Dec/2001:14:30:48
I can remmember watching number 73 when I was a kid it was a good show

This web site is also very good and brought back some tv memories for me

Rob Lubbock   16/Nov/2001:22:57:12
What a great site!
I remember No73 very well!
Saturday mornings were worth watching again on ITV after Tiswas had
finished in 1982.

The Sandwich quiz with Ethel was fab Sandi was great at doing it she
was so funny!

Well done Paul good stuff so....................

oh my god I can't believe its true!!!!!!!!!!!! after all these years of
trying to convinve people, friends even family that there was this
programme called no.73 -&- then 7T3. they thot I was insane but I'm not
its realy true it did exist!!

Mandi Toksvig   12/Oct/2001:15:29:14
I used to watch No.73 religiously, and to this day, remain one of
Sandi's biggest fans. She appeared on Light Lunch with Mel and Sue, I
asked her if she enjoyed her time on No.73. She said she loved it, and
would love to do more kids television. Can you imagine that, a No.73
special, 20 yrs on....
Anyway, it was never the same after Sandi left, and although I still
loved the show, the loss was too much to bear. Probably started
watching BBC then......
Thanks for a nostalia trip.
xx

Clair simmons   04/Oct/2001:00:04:26
Well I have been talking about No 73 for years now to friends and no
one seems to remember it except me it was great to find out that I
wasn't dreaming it and that loads of others remember it.

arron talk21 27/Sep/2001:00:48:37
well what can i say i was just talking to my mate the other day about
no 73 saying do you remember that. And now there is a web site
fantastic well done to paul -&- co thanks and i will be visiting again.

Amanda Cox   26/Sep/2001:01:43:03
It really surprised me to learn later in life that Sandi Toksvig was an
adult comedienne, and I couldn't see her on things like "Who's Line is
it Anyway" without thinking of dear Ethel!
Scoop - I met Andrea who played Dawn when I was working in a shoe shop
in Bromley in 1989. She seemed surprised that I remebered her from no73
and I think she tried to diassociate herself from it a bit as she was
starting a new career at Sky or something, which is a shame as 73 was a
good programme to be remebered for.
Was it shot in Maidstone in the Maidstone Studios which was once The
Family Channel?

Thomas Victor Smith   24/Sep/2001:02:01:48
God, I must have been about 5 when I watched this!!! I remember singing
the theme tune on the way to school realy, REALLY loudly! In fact, the
local ice hockey team have just brought in new red kits with yellow
numbers, and one of our players is squad number 73 (though the name
escapes me).

Simon King Life is fast - hang on.... 16/Sep/2001:06:42:38
Well, I thought it was just me that reckoned 73 was the best
saturday morning TV show ever. I was barely nine when 7T3
ended, and I was in a *lousy* mood for months afterwards -
Motormouth garbage....

I distinctly remember the toaster being used as a projector, and
the blinds for as screen, and the sound they made when they
folded round. I remember when they had 'living sculptures' on the
walls in the lounge. I remember mushrooms being grown in the
basement. I remember a couple of 8-bit coders (The Oliver
Twins?? From Codemasters??) coding a rudimentry game live on
air from scratch. I remember laughing till I choked when the
bathroom fell into the lough. I remember a sign hanging on the
shower saying how it was cheaper to have a shower than a bath.

Phew!! That's a lot of I remembers. When I tune into kids TV
today, the saturday shows seem to miss the point. I *loved* the
surreality of the storylines in 73, something that carried on in
shows like Ghost Train, Paralle

Matthew Smith   10/Sep/2001:21:04:42
I remember begging my mum to buy the TV Times with the No. 73 scrach
and sniff card. When I watched 73 that Saturday, all the boxes smelt of
cut grass and nothing else. I was very upset.

Noticed The Iggy Pop clip from No73 was on the nostalgia
music show on C4 last week, with an interview with
the director!!
There should be some repeats of No73 on one of the
satellite channels.

Collin Amner   10/Aug/2001:04:48:55
Thanks for that nostalgic trip down memory lane..
There are three things I remember clearly about No 73

1. They use to project Disney cartoons through the toaster ( and I
think onto a blind)

2. I'm sure that they had a comedy murder mystery called..I think'
Someone for Dinner'..or something like that

3. I remember a man who made a recording of a brass band just by making
noises into a tape recorder.

..oh yeah and I'm sure that i use to call Harry...'Flash' Harry

How about some comments on the making of the programme,
then Dave? You must have some interesting stories!
Was the programme (apart from the links you mentioned)
entirely live, or was it pre-recorded at all?

Aah!Days of yore past! What a giggle doing all the films for inserts
into the show. 'Sands of Thyme' being a particular favourite with days
of re-recording dialogues for the off screen bits.....great fun. Love
to all who remember Dave and Sue.

Christopher Tsangari   02/Jun/2001:01:41:28
Unbelievable! I feel like I am 6 years old again.

It's such a coincidence that the other day I discovered an old episode
on VHS (taped in Nov 1986) - I nearly cried watching it because I can
now understand everything they say now (I knew the words by heart at
that age but didn't register the meaning - of course I was only six
years old). I probably last saw that episode at age 8 (I am now aged
21).

What happened to Kim Goody? I had a crush on her then...! (I last
spotted her on "The Brian Conley Show" as one of the background
singers).

A plea to the Pearson televison (UK): You have as a whole an array of
channels on Sky Digital - PLEASE REPEAT THE SHOWS!!! You already
repeat "Knight Rider" and a load of others.

Matthew Coffey   21/May/2001:16:21:28
Top site!

I was one of the original brats running around the set with an
occasional speaking part. We were selected not only for our attendance
of the drama club at the highly prestigious Senacre High School but
also for the fact we were shorter than Sandi!

Any fellow childhood superstar thespian chums out there send me a mail,
I'd love to get hold of an episode or two.

No way! I remember this TV program from when I was only 5 or 6 years
old and I loved it, though didn't understand much of it! I couldn't
quite remember the name of it until recently when I turned up "Number
73" on a search engine and then jogged my memory with the excellent AVI
of the title theme. Well done on an excellent website! :o)

Interesting site, which I came across purely from doing a search on
AltaVista, after reading an article in the "Memory Alpha" section of TV
Zone magazine.

Anyway, good site, but not enough pictures.

Also, what about some more info on Andrea Arnold, please?! She was
probably the first girl I ever had a crush on! I thought she was an
absolute stunner, and still do, even to this day. Does she have a fan-
club or website or anything like that, that anyone knows anything
about? I would love to get a signed picture of her!

Great fun looking back, I worked on nearly all of the programmes from
Gillingham and Maidstone as part of the Sound Crew. I have several
items of memorabilia including the complete 'Novel Novel by Roger
Mcgough'. I can assure you it was as much fun to work on as it was to
watch.

Shiv   29/Mar/2001:15:41:26
I'm sitting here at Meridian's TV studios in Maidstone with Mike (sound-
effects-extraordinaire) King - who worked on No.73.

Although he doesn't appretiate me reminding him I used to watch the
show when I was at school, he is a great fountain of knowledge when it
comes down to all things 73ish, and will, at the drop of a hat, burst
into "Hey you! Get ready get on the street . . ."

Cool site, great to know there's someone keeping the memory alive! Do
you think we could sell the idea to the BBC to replace Live and Kickin'!

Louis   22/Mar/2001:02:24:00
Great site!, Unfortunately, can only vaguely remember No. 73
From Me childhood, But your site's filled me in with what else
I need to know. Cheers Mate. On another note, Is it just me
or did TVS Make the dogs doodahs of kids TV back in the '80's?
Who else out there can remember stuff like DO IT!, Mr. Majieka
Or even Fraggle Rock?. Has anyone got any No. 73 Tapes or
DO IT! tapes. TVS' Archive is in the USA, So no chance there
Then!.

J. Edgar Hoover III   21/Mar/2001:00:10:41
OK dudes, we all know that No.73 was the best kids' TV in the whole of
history and I must say that this Web site which I've looked in on a few
times truely does it proud. WELL DONE PAUL - it's bloody fantastic. I
planned something similar myself for a long time but never managed to
find the time - I am so pleased that someone has saved me the trouble
and gone ahead and done it properly. No.73, of course, introduced us to
that most beautiful of people Sandi Toksvig, whom from the start it was
clear was destined for great things :-) Thankyou for an excellently
designed memory jogging Web site. Wouldn't it we wonderful (if not a
tad sad and spooky) if we could all get together for a huge No.73 party
some time - say, its 20th aniversary for example? Who's with me?

Hi,

Brilliant website, i can still remember no73 on saturday mornings, p
[itchged against saturday supersore and going live, but No73 was always
my favourite. Remember the days of live bands performing in the cellar
and ethel's sandwich quiz, i still remember that well! 7T3 was cool and
i remember that the best, shame it finished so soon though.

Lucy   05/Oct/2000:16:02:49
Well well well.....whilst rummaging around in my attic the other day I
came across my old No. 73 annual!!!! it's brilliant (73 alternative
uses for a shed...fantastic) I spent hours pouring over it until my
friends all decided I was pathetic cos they couldn't remember such a
show. I kept it out and shall keep it to show my children what proper
saturday morning T.V. was like, not this Live and Kicking shit.

Then today, while nosing around the internet I stumble upon this little
gem of a website devoted to the whole program. wuuuuunderful.

See ya.

Andy   21/Aug/2000:00:21:08
Fantastic Site - it's great to relive some of the memories from Number 73. Thanks for reminding me of the gorgeous Andrea Arnold (surely the twin sister of Charlie Dimmock? :-) ). I can remember sending off for the 7T3 badge - If I remember we had to send in a design for our own 7T3 badge, I can remember waiting ages for the badge to come so I sent away again - Low and behold I had 2 badges come in post on the same day. Do you think I'm the only person in the world to have conned the 7T3 production team and come away with 2 badges? By the way, does anyone out their know what Andrea Arnold is upto these days?

Rob   09/Aug/2000:09:24:09
Have spent the last couple of weeks discovering some of the most
amazing kids TV websites, this has to be one of the best I've come
across! Am I right in thinking that the first band ever featured was
Big Country, and this was in fact their TV debut? Please E-mail me if
you know for sure! My friend Alison has just said she remembers Howard
Jones playing the Sandwich Game (?!?!) Anyway keep up the good work.
Sandi, you're the best! (Someone please help me).

I AM GLAD TO SEE YOU ARE GIVING THE PROGRAMME THE FULL CREDIT IT
DESERVES...EXCELLENT PROGRAMME.

This was the first ITV network show I worked on as a vision control
engineer, the first time I had my "name in lights" across the UK! I
joined TVS in September 1984 from the BBC, so just missed series 4. To
say it was fun would be an understatement - all that energy!
The studios live on as The Maidstone Studios, and right now Neil
Buchanan is in the very same studio making another series of Art Attack.

ruthrik   07/May/2000:19:03:59
Hi! Nice page! I got a 73 badge - don't know what series it was from,
but it is a yellow 73 on saloon type doors. Any offers? Also, does
anyone know where I can get onto a Flumps website?

Richard Addison   03/May/2000:01:44:49
Just paid my first visit to "Hey you". Quite a shock to see my
relatively youthful face staring back at me. Brought back some
brilliant memories. A couple of details - I think you've got Martin and
Hazel down as having been in series 1-7. It was actually 2-7. Also, I'm
fairly sure Tony Deal showed up before series 4. Or am I
misunderstanding the numbers that appear after our names. Couldn't see
an e-mail address for the site, so I'm using this route. Great to know
we're not forgotten. It was a ground-breaking show.
Cheers, Richard Addison (Martin Edwards)

Fantastic site for the best Saturday morning prog ever....

One of the few memories I have of 73 was of Sandi Toksvig modelling a
dress made out of bin bags!! Wouldn't get that on Live and Kicking
would you?

Keep up the good work!! (is there any surviving episodes of No.73 on
tape?)

Rich.

No. 73 was the best kid's TV show of ALL time.

I best remember the classic episode when the bath (at least I think it
was a bath?!) fell through the floor into the room below.

I used to love watching it.

Even though 7T3 was rubbish, I was one of the many who sent off for a
7T3 badge and it took ages to recieve it due to it's popularity!

Ruth   10/Nov/1999:14:11:32

No. 73 was fantastic. Wonder what the gang are doing now. Except for Neil and Sandy (Ethel) We still see them on TV. Anyone remember Kim Goody's single "Don't Turn Around". I've still got my copy.

the memories. I love that theme tune.

Andrew Dale   17/Oct/1999:23:02:07
Hello Morris old chap...

Thought I'd update you on the activities of former 73 resident Neil
Buchanan as I've just been watching a thrilling episode of the classic
costume drama "Art Attack". The man's modesty is amazing, his own
assessment of each completed masterpiece being "Not bad eh?"

Why with 60 channels to choose from would I watch such shit? And it is
literally shit, rhinocerous shit to be exact. Today's program saw Neil
at the zoo where he collected a nice big barrow full of rhino turds
which he then expertly moulded into the image of the animal that
originally produced it. "Not bad at all eh?"

Ever thought about adding a small section for this sub-73 shite on your
webpage?

Simon Vickery 23/Sep/1999:03:08:44

If anyone has any pictures or articles relating to 73 which they would
like to share, do please pass them on. I'll stick them on the website
before you can say 'Delectable, delicatessenable', along with a glowing
credit so that everyone will know you for the star you are.

The sandwich quiz always set me up for lunch! I was starving by the time
the presenters were forced to dance to some crappy pop band at the end
of the show! "Let's boogie with the band!" INDEED! I was racing to the
kitchen at that point!

Great! Good to see these old programmes again. Does anyone have any
info on an old programme called Screen Test?

celia pudwell   28/Jun/1999:13:11:06
number 73 eh? Whatever happened to quality tv like that. It's not even
worth waking up on a Saturday any more without Sandi's welcoming smile,
Dawn on those rollerskates or delightful Neil Bucchanan. What was that
game that involved a giant toaster?!

Me   28/Jun/1999:03:13:45
ANDREA ARNOLD where is she now? What does she do?

Mark Roberts   23/Jun/1999:23:35:50
Anyone remember Iggy Pop prentending to shag the big teddy bear in the
basement when everyone was there to Boogie with the band! Ahh, those
were the days! Thanks for the memories from a Canadian exile!

Great site glade to see other people keeping old tv programs alive.
does any body have any on video. Many thanks Graham

Yes, I remember this show too, although there are no emotions associated
with those memories at all. The theme tune lingers on in my mind, as
does and episode where there was a James Bond spoof, and a sketch where
all the characters were French, but spoke English and had their lines
subtitled into French. I prefered Swap Shop and Tiswas, but there you
go.

Thanks for the sound files. Keep up the good work.

I had completely forgotten about No 73 until I saw it on the list of
British Children TV shows. I used to watch it (begrudgingly at first
because I loved Tiswas) but then got into it and I also started to
fancy the Harry character - I think he later went out with Anita Dobson
in real life? Well I was only young (10/11 yrs) in 1982.

Mrs EDWARDS (Jeannie Crowther) can be currently seen in the TV commercial
for Yours magazine, a magazine for the over 60s. It's mostly shown during
the adbreaks for Countdown and 15 to 1.

Ah, brilliant!!! One of the better Saturday morning TV progs (well, in
it's pre 7T3 days of course!)

Anyone remember the yodelling doorbell?

Cheers for a brilliant site - and of course the .wavs of the theme
tunes!

Debbie   24/May/1999:11:51:48
Well, this is for all those who thought I was crackers when I started
talking about No. 73 at work the other day.
I'm glad there are others that remember this.
Things that spring to mind are the rollar-boots, the cupboard under the
stairs, the outfits that ethel wore, how i used to fancy the pants off
neil and the sandwich quiz....that was my fave...with the prize of a
gold knife and butter (or something like that).
I'd love to see some greatest moments from this fab show.
And please try and put the theme tune and quiz on mp3 or something like
that. It would be great to hear it again.
Splendid!!

This brings back memories. Mainly of series 7/8.
I remeber the episode clearly where the bath tub fell through the
ceiling( don't know why). I also remember this being the first TV
appearance of Morris Minor and The Majors with their infamous Stutter
Rap song (of which for some reason i own a copy of). Ah the memories.
God i feel old.

Carolyn   23/May/1999:19:21:39
What a great surprise it was to find No.73! I am just glad to find that
other people remember it as well as me! I feel really old but what the
hell!
Does anyone remember when they tried to hypnotise the rabbit by drawing
a line on the floor with chalk? It still amuses me now!

Miranda Ashitey The Super Freak Zone 22/May/1999:12:30:31
Yay! I remember watching no. 73! Remember when they used to darken the
room and turned on the projector when they wanted to show cartoons?

Anyway, even though I watched with gusto, for the life of me, I can't
remember Sandie thingybob being in it, although that's the only person
my older brother can remember in no. 73. He says every time he sees her
on TV, all he can think of is No. 73.

Thank you for a great web site!

PS. Did it really run until '88? God, I feel so old, even though I was
born in 1982.

Ian Jackson   22/May/1999:06:58:22
Somethings stick in your mind from long ago, and this is one of them. I
particularly remember FRED DYNAGE on FA cup day 1983 Man utd v
Brighton. No reason, I just remember it.
Did it run on the full ITV network up until 1988 ? I have to put up
with Yorkshire TV (although I live in Lincs) and don't remember it
being on in 1988.

Miranda   21/May/1999:17:36:31
I found this page while on a nostalgia trip and it inspired me to go
routing through the loft to find my old annuals, badges and a signed
post card! This was without a doubt the best show on TV - my first
ever crush was on Harry, me being all of five years old at the time.
I've got a lot of memories of the show, especially Dawn's rollerskates!

Nadia Halliday-Kirch   18/May/1999:04:05:24
I was only 6 and still living in Scotland when No 73 started ...what I
remember is driving my mother completely mad singing the theme tune all
the time and infuriating her by refusing to move from the house until
it had finished! It was also the start of my passion for Roger
Ramjet! My most cherished memories are when I got an autographed
postcard and letter telling me my entry into the "dot dot dot"
competition (if anyone remembers that) came second! I hate to say it
but the postcards were lost when we moved to Australia much to my
dismay!Fantastic web page! Keep it up can't wait to hear the theme tune
again!!!!!!

Derek McCabe   17/May/1999:18:08:00
Good Site bringing back some very fond childhood memories!

Any chance of the theme tune in any format?

Daniel Li My Page! 17/May/1999:14:03:03
What can i say! The only page i can find about my fave show of all
time! Sure it was along time ago but it was the king of morning shows!
If anyone has any old tapes of the show let me know !!
Great page, keep it comming!

Great site... I only wish I could remember more of the show. Being
three when the show started, and nine when it ended, I can only remember
certain parts of it, but the music is one of the things I *CAN*
remember!

You must try and get an mp3 of it!

Eee, it fair takes me back. The No73 crisis I'll always remember is
Harry leaving for an episode or two after a row with Ethel, (Details,
as always, have been misplaced behind the sofa of my brain). For some
reason it really choked me up. The power of TV on young minds.. I
resolved never to argue with anyone ever again. Lasted about 10
minutes, of course, but it was a nice sentiment at least. Cool site -
Thanks for the memories.

Mark Steele Mark Steele 11/May/1999:18:32:10
Love it! I used to watch No.73 every week and would always try to
remember the Sandwich quiz lyrics!

As is traditional, I thought I'd get the guest-book up and 'running'
myself.

Hope you've enjoyed the site, and it's brought back a few memories of
those halcyon Saturdays, when 'Get Set for Summer' was the only
alternative, and Ant and Dec were just a gleam in Mr Ant and Mr Dec
Snr's eyes...

(Did you know that a 'halcyon' is a seabird related to the kingfisher?
Quite how they became famous for their days is a bit of a mystery.)
