ON SCREEN

With the departure of Ethel's boyfriend Alec, this series saw Fred the local postman attempting, unsuccessfully, to replace him in her affections.

Money problems beset the gang towards the end of the series, which also introduced her bank manager Frederick 'boring' Crossfield. The last show saw Ethel and her friends barracading themselves into the house to escape their creditors. The series ended with Ethel posting a note through the door reading 'See you in February'.

SERIES4 FASCINATING FACTS!

Harry was absent for much of this series, to the consternation of many viewers. In his absence, Fred the Postman, in particular, was given more to do.
Fred was played by comedy actor Tony Aitken, who is sadly probably best known as "Poor Tom" the madman in the Blackadder II episode "Bells".
In the last episode of this series, the programme did not end with the band (Matt Bianco). The credits rolled over scenes of the gang barracading themselves into the house, with the 73 theme playing.

Super Sleuth

Barmy detective "Super Sleuth" was played by Colin Daly of the grandly-named DPR International. (which actually stood for Daly Public Relations, ie. him.)

Ex-policeman Colin's exciting and elaborate competitions appeared in several series of No. 73.
